Since 2003 the Nav Station has worked closely with the McMullen & Wing design team and the owners representative to formulate the marine electronics and audio visual systems package plus the supply of all safety gear for the vessels Kelsey Lee, finalist in the 2005 best Power Vessel 22 – 33m (Fort Lauderdale), Jariya, winner 2006 Best Power Boat 22-33m (Fort Lauderdale) and the latest project Ermis II, a 37m high speed motor yacht.
The success of these projects has been the meeting of all parties to confirm that the products offered are the very best to suit the owner’s requirements. More recently Navin has been able to offer audio visual systems aboard these vessels. The supply and fit of predominantly Linn gear audio visual gear with Sony screens on Ermiss II has met the high standard the owner required in this field.
Plans for vessels such as this begin very early as all cable runs and placement need to be included with the Mc Mullen and Wing electrical schedule. Products such as the single sideband radio communication domes need to be sited early in the construction process to ensure they meet manufacturer’s installation requirements etc.
The Ermis project has been worked on for the last three years. The first year was mainly Bill and Navin meeting with all parties to ensure all systems (Marine, IT and AV) were going to be included in the electrical design for cable runs, culminating in the completion of the vessel in December 2007.
During this time a very close association has been formed with the owner’s rep and permanent crew members to keep all parties fully informed of product and placement of all product as the vessel will be based in Europe and others parties may be called in to look at the vessels system from time to time. The wiring and diagrams need to be exact and a copy of the wiring diagram has been enclosed as an example.
When it comes to running cable and installation of all equipment an excellent rapport with the yard and team leaders is so critical. Navin has been on site for the past year and such a relationship has been established which we hope can be put to good use for future projects as the co-operation of all parties is the essence of successful completion of such projects.
Both Bill and Navin want to acknowledge the incredible co-operation and help shown by McMullen and Wing design team, McMullen & Wing team leaders as well as the owners rep John Sowerby and ships engineer and boat manager Shane McLarnon.
It is very easy to take the kudos for these projects and say Nav station is responsible for what we see but without the help of the above people it would be impossible to achieve the results that Ermis II can display.
Navin has also been able to simplify by designing install an excellent computer system and again his exceptional ability in this area makes these projects achievable.
Bills experience in large Project Management and Navins pleasant and clam demeanor working on all the different facets has allowed this project to proceed with ease. For one company to have covered all marine, audio visual and safety gear says a lot for the depth of talent at the Nav Station and again the Mc Mullen and Wing had only on company to deal.
It is interesting to note that the audio visual systems aboard these larger vessels have now become more challenging than the marine electronics packages. The ability for the owners of these vessels to receive all forms of communication whilst aboard their vessels is a very important factor.
The radars and chart plotters, autopilots, radios etc are very important for the safety of the vessel and to the crew but the owner is far more concerned that the communications and audio visual systems are to his requirements.
